Summer Theatre Conservatory

Into the Woods, JR rehearsal

In the summer of 2015, In Tandem launched a summer theatre immersion program for students ages 11-18 from July 13 – August 2. Directed by Shannon Sloan-Spice, Ph.D. with musical direction by Annie Denison, the program culminated in live performances of Stephen Sondheim’s award-winning musical, Into the Woods, JR.

In addition to acting, voice, and movement classes, students participated in set-building, props, costumes, lights and sound design. The students also learned administrative skills in marketing, publicity, house management and box office. Opportunities for young visual artists to exhibit and curate their art in the theatre’s gallery were also available.

Founded on trust, integrity, inclusion and imagination, this unique, blended humanities approach to arts education provided a deepened experience of the full artistic process. Through the generosity of our sponsors*, In Tandem was able to offer scholarships to participants as well as provide free tickets for a performance to children served by the Boys and Girls Club of Milwaukee.
